Why Bilingual Education is Important to Me?
New York City is a city of immigrants. Bilingual Education is very important for new immigrants, including myself. Bilingual Education is the classes that are taught in two languages, your native language and target language. I take some classes in Bilingual, such as science, and United States History and Government. Bilingual teachers use my native language to teach the lessons. In addition, they explain the concepts of the books in Chinese. It helps me understand better.
Bilingual Education helps me to increase learning of academic areas, like science and history. When I first came here, I was not a bilingual student. Therefore, I took all the courses in English only. However, I didn't know anything about English. I had no idea what the teachers said. During the classes, I just sat there and did nothing. I felt I was an idiot. It sounds funny, but that's the truth. After three months, I transferred to another school, and became a bilingual student. I took most of my courses in bilingual. Bilingual teachers use my native language to explain the concepts, helping me understand them. Therefore, I can be a successful manner.
Bilingual Education also can help me to remember my native language. Even through I have been studying it for several years, I still will forget it sometimes because I don't use it. Bilingual Education uses two languages to teach, so it helps me to improve my native language. At the same time I am learning English more easily.
In the future, more and more businesses need workers who can use another language rather than English. If I am bilingual, it will be easier for me to find a job. I also can communicate with more people because I know two languages. If I return to my native country, I also can find a job there if I can use my native language well, including reading, writing, and speaking.
As you can see, Bilingual Education is very important to me. It has provided many benefits, not just for me, but for all the immigrants. If I didn't have Bilingual Education, it would be more difficult for me to learn English. In addition, I would forget my native language gradually.
